How Much Do You Know About Ultrasound?

Jun.28.2024

First, What is ultrasound?

Ultrasound is inspired by human beings from nature. The frequency of sound waves that our human ears can hear is 20-20,000 Hz. As the name implies, "ultrasound" means that it exceeds this upper limit of hearing, and it is commonly found around us. As early as 200 years ago, scientists were inspired by bats and discovered the wonders of ultrasound, which is now widely used in various fields such as medicine.

Ultrasound medicine is is the use of the physical properties of ultrasound and the interaction of the acoustic properties of human organs and tissues, so as to obtain the diagnosis and treatment of disease technology and methods.

Second, is the use of ultrasound is used to examine the fetus?
When many people mention ultrasound, their immediate reaction is: girls do it to check their babies.

Although ultrasound medicine has not lasted long, it has developed rapidly and is no longer limited to the field of fetal examination, but is also widely used in the diagnosis of diseases in superficial parts of organs such as the heart, blood vessels, abdomen, breast and thyroid, and even plays an increasing role in the fields of muscle, bone, lung and gastrointestinal.

Nowadays, ultrasound medicine is almost ubiquitous and has become one of the most common and convenient means for medical examination or disease review.

Third, ultrasound examination has "radiation"?

Many people are concerned about the effects of ultrasound on their bodies due to the presence of radiation. In general, harmful to the human body refers to ionizing radiation, we will be exposed to X-rays or CT examinations, but only in excess will cause harm, and ultrasound is essentially a high-frequency sound waves, can not produce electromagnetic radiation, so will not cause "radioactive" harm, not only to ordinary people, pregnant women and fetuses It is also a safe and harmless way of examination. The ultrasound examinations we use in clinical diagnosis are generally at a frequency of 1 to 30 megahertz, which is within a safe range in terms of intensity and time, so there is nothing to worry about.

Why is color ultrasound not in color, but in black and white?

The full name of color ultrasound is color Doppler ultrasound, and the key word in this is Doppler. The ultrasound diagnostic instrument uses the principle of Doppler to process the signal and then superimpose the blood flow signal on the two-dimensional image in real time, so as to obtain various information of blood flow. The "color" signal is added only when the blood flow is understood, and there are only two types of color signals, red and blue, which represent the two directions of blood flow, red for the direction toward the probe and blue for the direction away from the probe. Without the use of the Doppler function, the image is just as black and white. At present, ultrasound instruments are basically equipped with a pseudo-color function, which can turn black and white images into color images, but this is only a function, not the same as color ultrasound.
Five, ultrasound examination which need "fasting" and "hold urine"?
Ultrasound very "hate" air, because air will cause strong attenuation of ultrasound, affecting the examination effect. Therefore, in order to avoid air interference as much as possible, it is necessary to fast for abdominal ultrasound examinations, such as liver, gallbladder and pancreas, and it is better to fast for 6-8 hours.

In doing uterus, prostate, bladder, etc. need to fully hold urine before the examination.

Why are the numbers in the ultrasound report "big and small"?

Generally speaking, lesions do not develop too fast in a short period of time, and even malignant tumors take time to develop. Most of this is due to measurement error. We will try to measure the longest diameter line, but the egg is an irregular oval shape, so if the measurement is a little bit off, then the measured value may be different, sometimes it will be bigger, sometimes it will be smaller. These errors are within a reasonable range and have little impact, which also indicates that there are no major changes in the lesion, so there is no need to worry too much.
Seven, what are the sticky things that are applied during ultrasound examination?

These are medical ultrasound couplers. When we do ultrasound examination, the coupling agent is applied to isolate the air between the surface of the probe and the skin, and it can also play a lubricating role. Medical couplant is a water-soluble polymer gel, which does not contain oil substances and is non-irritating to the skin, non-allergic, non-polluting, and no need to worry about bad cleaning. With the improvement of medical level, the latest coupling agent, even integrated disinfection function, the use of some special people examination can also avoid cross-infection.

Eight, ultrasound examination in the end I have to wait how long?

The speed of ultrasound examination is related to the number of examination sites and the complexity of the examination. Some examiners have a single part and there are not many abnormal findings, so the examination time will naturally be shorter, while some examiners have many parts and more problems, and may even need repeated examinations and consultations before the final diagnosis, and the time is bound to be longer. If you think your examination time is shorter, it may just mean that your condition is not serious, so please do not blindly compare the examination time.
